1.0  Overview

        1.1     This update includes a new firmware set for the ServeRAID 4Mx/4Lx/5i/6M/6i/7k SCSI Controllers  
        
        1.2     Limitations

                - None

        1.3     Problem(s) fixed:

                - Enhancement made to behavior of Copyback operation when an unrecoverable error occurs on the 
                  source disk. Prior behavior created a bad stripe. Enhancement fails copyback instead. 
                  User can recover by executing an array sync, then reinitiating copyback.
 
        1.4.    Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update:

                - Five blank diskettes.
		- IBM ServeRAID User's Reference (SRAID.PDF) which is located
                  in the /BOOKS directory on the "IBM ServeRAID Adapter Support" CD.

2.0  Installation and setup instructions

  2.1  Creating and using the diskettes
  _____________________________________

  To create and use the update diskettes:

    1.  Using an image writing application, such as dd for Linux, or rawrite
        for Windows, create a diskette from each of the five image files.
        Number the diskettes with the number from the filename 
        (the ibm_fw1_ips... file creates diskette number 1).

    2.  Insert diskette number 1 into the floppy drive (or into a USB floppy 
        drive) and reboot the system.

    3.  The system will boot to DOS.  Prompts will lead you through the update 
        process and tell you when to insert the additional diskettes.

    4.  When the update is complete, remove the last diskette and reboot the 
        system.

        - To create a diskette, refer to the diskette creation  instructions in the /BOOKS directory
          on the "IBM ServeRAID Adapter Support" CD.
        - Create all five diskettes from the images provided.
        - Boot the system from the first diskette.
        - Follow the instructions provided by the update program.
