Gateway - installer has the following components: - A back-end with local agent and remote agent management capabilities. - A monitor with remote monitoring capability. - A client with remote and managed server capabilities. The Gateway installer has the following features: - Permits discovery of other servers that run the LSI Storage Authority software. - Permits self registration using OpenSLP and has interface for server discovery detection from the network. - Allows you to manage the servers from the list of discovered servers through the user interface (UI). 2. StandAlone - installer has the following components: - A back-end with local agent (without remote agent management capability). - A monitor (without remote monitoring capability). - A client (without remote and managed server capabilities). The standAlone installer has the following features and limitations: - Does not permit the discovery of other hosts that are running the LSI Storage Authority software. - Permits self registration of the current host using OpenSLP, but will not have any interface for server discovery detection from the network. - Provides capability to configure LDAP information. - Does not permit to add managed servers through the user interface (UI). 3. Agent-only - The following are the types of agent-only installations: - Indirect agent (MegaRAID SMI-S provider) - Direct agent The direct agent installer has the following components: - A back-end with local agent and a monitor component. - A thin agent, which supports discovery (using SLP), authentication, and DCMD tunneling. The indirect agent installer has the following components: - OpenSLP - SMI-S 4. Lightweight Monitory (LWM) - Provides server monitoring capabilities and helps to monitor the health of theserver and alerts the end-user of any issues with event logs and email notifications. 2.2 Attended Installation ------------------------- A. Extract update to a directory. B. Run the LSI Storage Authority setup.exe file. The InstallShield Wizard dialog appears. C. Follow the instructions in the GUI. 2.3 VMware Configuration ------------------------- This section details on the steps user(s) need to perform for the VMware ESXi server discovery through LSA. Steps to be performed in VMware ESXi (Server): -------------------------------------------------- The following section describes the step(s) user(s) needs to perform beforehand in VMware for the LSA to discover. 1. Install the latest SMI-S provider in VMware ESXi set up ->esxcli software vib install -v --force ->reboot the ESXi server after the SMI-S provider installation Make sure to take the right SMI-S provider specific to VMware ESXi versions, as below: a.VMWare-ESX4-Provider.zip -> VMware ESX 4.x b.VMWare-ESXi-Provider.zip -> VMware ESXi 5.x c.VMWare-ESXi5.5-Provider.zip -> From VMware ESXi 5.5 and above 2. Stop the firewall. ->esxcli network firewall unload Note: On every reboot firewall gets enabled, so make sure to run this command after every reboot 3. Make sure provider services are up and running. ->/etc/init.d/slpd status ->/etc/init.d/sfcb-watchdog status 4. If any configuration changes, below steps needs to be performed: ->/etc/init.d/sfcb-watchdog stop ->/etc/init.d/slpd stop ->/etc/init.d/slpd start ->/etc/init.d/sfcb-watchdog start 5. Make sure Storage Controller in VMware ESXi has right configuration (Firmware / Driver) and working fine before connecting through LSA. Note: Make sure install the right driver and reboot the ESXi server. Ex: esxcli sottware vib install --force Try the below command to verify whether the controller is getting detected (or) not. Ex: enum_instances cim_system lsi/lsimr13 Steps to Configure the Network in VMware ESXi: -------------------------------------------------- 1. By default during VMware OS installation IP and Hostname should be configured appropriately. 2. In case Installed VMware OS system moved from one network to other network, incase hostname mapping is not proper please follow the steps mentioned in the below link to configure Network and Hostname http://www.unixarena.com/2015/05/how-to-configure-the-network-on-vmware-esxi-6-0.html 3. For networks that do not have DNS configured, the hosts file in the machine on which the LSA is installed must be edited as follows: a. Add an entry to map the VMware host's IP address with the host name. b. Add an entry to map the actual IP address of the localhost with its hostname (an entry for the loopback address would be present by default in the hosts file and it should not be removed). For example, if 135.24.228.136 is the IP address of your VMware host and 135.24.228.137 is the IP address of your Client host, the following entries must be added in the hosts file (which is on your client machine, means machine on which your LSA is installed): -> 135.24.228.136 dhcp-135-24-228-136.lsi.com dhcp-135-24-228-136 #VMware -> 135.24.228.137 dhcp-135-24-228-137.lsi.com dhcp-135-24-228-137 #Client Note: hosts file in linux is /etc/hosts while in windows is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts Steps to be performed in Client (Windows/Linux): -------------------------------------------------- Note: Both the client and server should be in the same subnet. 1) Stop/Disable the firewall in the Client machine (Windows/Linux). 2) Install latest LSA in Client(Windows/Linux) in Gateway Mode 3) Launch LSA. 4) Ensure LSA service is up and Running. 5) Ensure other LSA server(s) in the network is discovered. 6) VMware IP should be discovered as part of Remote Server Discovery 7) Login with VMware credentials to monitor and manage Storage Controller through LSA client. Note: If VMware IP still can't be discovered in step 6), do the following on the ESXi server and restart the slpd and LSA service on client and try again. -> /etc/init.d/sfcb-watchdog stop -> /etc/init.d/slpd stop -> /etc/init.d/slpd start -> /etc/init.d/sfcb-watchdog start 2.4 Trouble Shooting Tips ------------------------- If you are having issues in installing the OpenSLP Version 2.0.0, alternatively you can also install openslp_2.0.0_beta2_x86.msi, which can be downloaded from https://qa.debian.org/watch/sf.php/openslp 2.5 Un-install ------------------ You can uninstall the LSI Storage Authority Software either through the Control Panel or the application shortcut in the Start menu.
